Conflict Coaching

Conflict Coaching is a process that helps people to prepare for difficult discussions they are planning to have without the presence of a neutral “outsider”. A conflict coach leads a person to explore her/his own feelings and needs, to understand what may motivate other participants in the planned conversation and to set goals for desired outcomes.

At AGING IN HARMONY, we understand how – in the face of family conflicts about aging concerns - strong emotions can stand in the way of constructive conversations and effective decisions. Conflict coaching can improve communication skills to master such conversations and facilitate conflict resolution by focusing on:

  • the individual being coached
  • exploring deep feelings and needs
  • formulating specific goals/outcomes
  • planning constructive actions/behaviors
  • evaluating post conversation results

Situations when Conflict Coaching can be effective:

  • People prefer to discuss difficult personal issues without a neutral “outsider”
  • The subject brings up strong emotions
  • The participants in the conversation have ongoing relationships
  • Past group dynamics have been strained
